New xbox IS coming..
Can't tell you how I know...but I have been shown definite proof that the new xbox 720 is coming shortly. Regardless of what microsoft says. and it's being called the 720 too. That's confirmed now. Based on the materials I've seen, I'd say it going to ship this summer.

First of, it won't be called the 720. That's just some number that someone picked out because it's logical.
Secondly, they just released the Kinect about a year ago, I think they'll try to milk that out till at least 2013.
Nothing is going to happen this year.
And ever if what you say is true, there is no way in hell that they are going to ship it this summer, only a couple months away. No way in hell
But wouldn't they want to get more mileage out of the 360, since they basically just redesigned it a little over a year ago?
The only reason I could see them releasing a new console now was if they believed Sony was about to launch the PS4. And I would also expect to see 360 price drops ahead of that.
But what do I know, I don't live in Silicon McValley .
so they can start the buying fury in time for Christmas season.
But I think that would be too late to announce it. I would expect any new consoles to be revealed at E3, with key developers having been in the loop months before that, to at least get some demos going. Then marketing hype throughout the summer, for a fall launch (available to buy), in time for the advance buying frenzy for Xmas like you said.

This weeks XS Cargo flyer has the 250 GB "slim" 360 for $228. So when stuff starts appearing in XS Cargo that usually means one of two things:
1) The manufacturer is clearing them out ASAP
2) They a refurbished.
However, seeing as how there has never been any consoles for sale at XS Cargo during the life cycle, this could also be an indicator of what is coming.
That said, I still think it is too soon, perhaps they will announce it E3, build hype for a year then release xmas season 2013?
