Portal is free on Steam, get yours before September 20.

It's still the same game from '07, but with Achievements, and a new ending. Oh, and a Mac version too.

When you look up Portal in the store, it is indeed listed for $20.

However if you click thru, there's no price.

Ok, dowloaded Portal for free (despite that being really unclear) but WTF is up with having to launch Steam every time I play?? This thing is a Virus! I find it hard to believe that you guys who moan about the big brother tactics of Apple and Microsoft have no issue with this. I just want to play the freaking game. I don't want Valve knowing my every move.

as opposed to Microsoft, where you have to run the Xbox Dashboard in the background at all times to play games?

Like the Xbox, Steam keeps track of stats, groups, etc. "just playing" the game doesn't happen anymore.
