Caprica Review...

By Akuf - Posted on 24 April 2009

Well as most of you know it takes a lot to impress me in a movie or TV show and I always seem to find the worst thing about everything.

Well after the semi-atrocious final season to BSG I will admit that the final episode of BSG was fairly well done.
I, like every other BSG fan eagerly awaited the release of Caprica on DVD.
I will start by asking: you know the old saying: 'when movies go straight to video', and what it means?
Well I think this is the first time where that will same saying will apply to a TV show.

So, with the least amount of spoilers here is my review of Caprica.

The movie/show is basically depicts the life of two family's the Graystones and the Adams (Adama, this is explained later in the episode in an eye gouging scene) and how the Cylons came to be. The beginning was your typical character introductions, which starts in the 'V Room' which is like a holographic version of the Red Light Center/Second Life (complete with nudity, careful Revek and Swag!). Anyway back to the review, there are three main characters Daniel Graystone (Eric Stotlz), Joseph Adams (Adama) (Esai Morales) and Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Toreson). After the death of their daughters the cross paths and the story moves on. The special effects were no where close to being a well done as BSG. The effects appeared to be fake and cartoony if you know what I mean. The camera work wasn't as 'real time' as BSG but I think this is because it is a different type of show. Where the makers wanted to portray a pure drama as opposed to an action drama. I found that most of the time some of the characters were over acting and the dialog at times was very 'robotic' (pardon the pun). The script at times was also kind of 'kid showish' which is rather amusing given the adult content the show contained.

There are several surprises and familiar faces most of us haven't seen in a while (this was kind of a highlight for me). Also, there are a lot of answers to questions you may have had in BSG answered as well.

All that being said I did enjoy watching it but I will also say they could have done a lot better.

Looks and even sounds like a young Demi Moore...

[spoiler]And I can't believe the Cylon Eve is a bratty teenage girl... then again, it kinda explains Helen Tigh [end spoiler]

Caprica is a made-for-tv spinoff "movie" of Battlestar Galactica, or some kind of a prequel?

MauriceRevek's picture

Is a spinoff 2 hour pilot for the new tv series that is a prequel of the Battlestar Galactica story. So how the Cylons came to be. The first war. blah blah blah.
