Curious Though
What was the cause? I have a friend locally that the fire was caused by an Air Exchanger (I think) Revek do you remember what caused MJC's fire?

It's still under review.

The building has been having power outages (quite frequently) for the last six months. When my roommate spoke with the maintenance guy, he said there was some faulty equipment...but they couldn't (RE wouldn't pay the $$$) for the repair, so he had to be on standby to reset the system every time the power went out.

I think it had to do with that....or it could have been someone trying to bake their own meth....who know.

The current status is that it's "under review"

That you let the investigators know this. This is negligence that could have cost some people their lives.

Even if *they couldn't* pay for it. There are laws (at least in Ontario) that will force landlords to do one of two things: Fix it or Refund Rents for 3 months the tenants have to move out and leases are null and void.

Problem it may become a "your word vs theirs" kind of thing. Where you can not prove what they said or vice versa. The maintenance guy (assuming he is just an employee) will have to fess up and say something too. Though, in his case his job could be on the line. But if others mention it, he could also be liable for not reporting it to begin with.

It was a defective heat exchanger for which a recall had been done. I don't know if he was the original owner of the house, so he may not have received the notice. Probably be too soon to know the cause of the fire though.
