Are we divided by The Division?

By Blackwalt - Posted on 22 February 2016

I mean, sure, everything else but I am specifically asking about Tom Clancy's The Division this time

The open Beta for The Division just finished and I managed to play it for about an hour. I did have a code for the closed beta but never bothered to load it up. Too busy playing Ark.

It definitely has potential but a potential that is better realized in four player co-op.

Stormblade was the first to mention The Division on the site. One of his Honourable Mentions. It is an online RPG action game similar to Destiny but with more RPG aspects. The Guardian has a write up that covers the important parts of The Division.

I am not saying I am prepared to give up on Ark Survival Evolved just yet but with The Division's strong emphasis on four player co-op and it's upcoming release (March 8th) I figured I should ask if anyone was planning on picking it up? Notice I left out the "as well." I am waiting to gauge how HoC feels.

Maybe we should have a poll? Or you could just voice your opinion in the comments. I promise to read them.

This time.

I quite liked it. The "dark zone" I'm not totally sure about. Seems like they are trying to find a creative way to bring competitive MP to a SP/coop game. But I do like the way the co-op MP feels like Destiny meets Ghost Recon.

I'm seriously debating picking it up and most likely will if other do.

Is the leveling system as stupid as Destiny?
Even when they "improved" the leveling system there is still a requirement (In Taken King) to get certain armour level etc. Which you will never be able to obtain unless you play in crucible or to the stupid weekly crap....

I just want to play a game not have a second job!
I learned my lesson with it for sure...

There is the Dark zone I spoke of...which gives you a different sort of XP/$...that you need for certain weapon/armor/mod dealers. Which is the part I don't like.

They even tell players straight up..."if you want the best loot, you need to go to the dark zone."

so they're forcing you to play competitive MP to earn the money for the better gear...which is completely ass f*cking backwards if you ask me. Like here's a perfectly good single/coop game, but we're adding this bizarre MP area inside the game that you need to spend the majority of your time in if you want the best guns & armor.

Competitive MP is where the money is at so they're all chasing COD's business model. Shame really.

I will definitely pass then....

What happened to the good old days when we just ran around and killed each other for a couple of hours and that was it.

That said, I remember reading somewhere that there is an FPS game being developed the old school way

"To those worried the Dark Zone is the only viable way to get the Best-In-Slot gear, equivalent and better gear can also be earned through PvE activities (missions, encounters, etc.) during a community podcast it was stated, "Some of the best gear in the game you'll be able to get through crafting" (Entirely unexplored system hype)"

well that's not what the BETA said. Either way, I will not be pre-ordering. I'll wait til it drops and then see what the actual details are.

Beta shows one thing but it is a Beta.

Developer says one thing but they are developers.

Could go either way. Dark Zone may or may not be required.

Still... four player coop and I was impressed by the open beta and sad when it shut down.

I have been burned so often lately on games that I am gun shy at this point. While I think this will be a great LAN party game and I will almost certainly pick it up at some point, I don't plan to buy it on launch or pre-order it.

For now I will be sticking to sales and single-player games.

I think I will also go back to my list of anticipated games and detail all of my disappointments with them. Other than AC of course. It was awesome!

No pre-order I agree but I am planning on picking it up on release day. just the standard edition for now.

However I think the LAN Party idea is great!

SeanMCR should host.
