Coxxoz's GTA5 LAN Party PSA#1

Counting down to the 19th

All of you who plan on attending this weekend's LAN party should have already picked up your copy of Grand Theft Auto 5 by now (if you didn't already own it). Coxxorz has been gracious enough to find a deal on the Xbox 360 version at Best Buy.

Now you need to install it. NOTE: we are playing the Xbox 360 version.

If you arrive at the LAN party without the Game installed, updated and the tutorials finished you will not have a good time.

So follow along...

Install the game:

  • Grand Theft Auto 5 comes on two discs. You need to install "Disc 1: Install" to your hard drive* and play from "Disc 2: Play." So far so good.

  • There will be a update the first time you launch Grand Theft Auto 5. It's not that bad and won't take that long.

  • On the other hand, their are 13 different compatibility packs that are required to play Grand Theft Auto 5 Online, They are large and they will take a while.

  • When you get to the point where you can play online you will be prompted to install them and taken to a screen where you can select them for download.

  • Each and ever one has to be selected separately of course.

  • You can to select them all from the Xbox website if you prefer.

Play the game:

  • As mentioned by Coxxorz in the invite you did not read all of you need to work your way through the Single Player Tutorial before you can play online.

  • Then you need to go online (downloading all the compatibility packs) to play an Online Tutorial before you can play with others.

If you leave this until the LAN party it will be over by the time you are finished and Graybush's internet cap will be lying on the floor crying.

* - Installing both Discs to the same hard drive will cause a massive performance slow down. Massive. So don't do it. However you can work around this if you insist. Notice I said same hard drive. If you have a USB memory stick of at least 16GB you can put that into your Xbox 360 and install one disc to the memory stick. Having the two Grand Theft Auto 5 installed to two different hard drives does provide a small performance boost.

Bring on Crying Saint Artimis: Black Ops of the Night Zombie... V!

BTW, Where is Greybushe's house? I could dig through my email for the last time I attended, but I think that was before GMail existed.

So the party is still in Ramsayville, correct?

Q-Bert's picture

I don't even live there anymore!
Seriously.

Bring something else to play as well for those of us who won't be playing GTA V. I'm bringing Black Ops, Black Ops 2, WoW, Red Dead Redemption, Blood Drive and Gears 3.

However please note that same-floor seating priority will be given to those with the requested game.

Also pregnant/nursing females, the elderly, and pets.

MauriceRevek's picture

Not sure where.

... Coxxorz is trying to explain that he has already picked the game for the LAN Party that he is organizing.

But I only think that.

Can't imagine why anyone would actively try to sabotage someone else's LAN Party.

Maybe that is the joke.

I don't really want to get into technicalities here, but I seem to remember the LAN party being my idea. Anyway, it is not my fault that Coxxorz chose a game he knew I would never buy and I am not concerned. You may all play it and I will enjoy myself even if it means just hanging out. I am not trying to sabotage anything.

Party on!

In fact you did set the available date.

This LAN is an amalgamation of Moricerevek's attempted Artemis party, Coxxorz's want to do a 50th birthday LAN (which is why the site stayed all 50ied for so long), your statement that you were available on the 19th we should do something, and Graybush's much regretted "I can host" statement.

Coxxorz, Q-Bert and Moricerevek were communicating secretly through back channels prior to this point. My random input of "Stormblade wants to play Dying Light on the 19th" to Coxxorz finalized everything into the form you see now.

Not everyone has an Xbox One which is why Dying Light dropped out of the picture.

In typical Herd of Cats manner, everyone and no one will claim responsibility afterwords.

The invite came from Coxxorz so I did give him ownership.

Everyone who reads the HerdofCats.ca is aware of your feelings on GTA. There was some hope that you (and others) would see past it and suffer through it for one night.

I do like the way in which no matter what I can always pin the blame on Q-Bert and when he ducks Moricerevek gets it.

Wait.... What?

Stormblade's picture

Artemis would have been awesome at Graybush's.

Coxxorz's picture

But so would strippers.

Graybush's picture

Man I need to check-in more frequently. I totally could've installed a stripper pole if I had read this sooner...

Blackwalt's picture

Worst LAN party ever.

Graybush's picture

You spelled "best" wrong.
